Students will receive individually tailored coaching and organised lessons in a productive learning environment, with room for questions and discussion on musical and technical topics.
1 to 1 lessons are an essential part of learning the cello. The continuity of having regular lessons is vital while setting foundation, for learning how to practice, have continuing improvement, keeping up motivation, and developing a rapport between teacher and student. I appreciate students who are wanting to work in a committed way and the commitment is mutual. Those who wish to have less than two lessons a month may take lessons on a casual basis at shorter notice, subject to availability. For more information on scheduling lessons please see my terms.
I teach beginners to advanced, children and adults. The consultation lesson will be spent assessing a student's level and their needs and making a plan accordingly. I have a wide knowledge of repertoire and methods and will make appropriate suggestions or take your lead if there's something in particular you want to play.
Due to the extra time it takes, I do not travel for lessons - the lessons take place at my home as I like to have my cello at hand to play together and demonstrate easily.
Based on my training and the long-lasting friendships I made while studying with other cellists, I have formed a studio class to train young cellists together. A studio class benefits from a social and supportive atmosphere. Alongside working together to build the foundations of cello playing, the studio gives students the opportunity to play different roles in a cello quartet, perform solo for each other during class, become better listeners, and strengthen their reading of music and sense of pulse, at the least. The lesson curriculum covers music theory, rhythmic and aural training as well.
Groups of 4-8 students will meet at the venue for weekly 1-hour lessons taking place after school on a Monday or Friday. Enrolment is by 4 pupils at time so friends or siblings are encouraged to join together. The schedule is TBC as I'm happy to arrange it after consulting with students, and more info can be seen on the terms page. A private lesson for each student will precede the beginning of group lessons.
